     Posthumous Joe Higgs Album Set to Release Next Month!

He’s been called the God father of reggae; the man who led the way more than 7 decades ago.

Reggae pioneer Joe Higgs would have turned 75 today and now an album called The Godfather of Reggae which has his last recordings will be released later this month to commemorate the trailblazer’s birthday.

Higgs, who was a mentor to Bob Marley and the Wailers and Jimmy Cliff, died in 1999 in Los Angles. According to Executive Producer Wayne Jobson Higgs had recorded the album with Irish producer Donal Lunny in 1997 and 1998 in Dublin. Jobson says “These songs are amongst Joe’s best ever and were his final works before his untimely passing.” He says the sessions from Dublin and Ocho Rios were recently discovered and re-mastered.

Higgs was part of the duo band “Higgs and Wilson with Roy Wilson and they had a huge hit in 1960 called “ Manny Oh, which was produced by Edward Seaga, former Prime Minister of Jamaica. But he’s also known as a great song writer, he wrote “There’s a Reward and Peter Tosh’s Stepping Razor.
