Legendary R&B singer Etta James — famous for her hit songs “At Last” and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” died on Friday. The singer whose health was on a rapid decline the last few years was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010. She also suffered from dementia and Hepatitis C. Her live-in doctor announced the singer was “terminally ill” last month, after her leukemia was declared incurable. James was a four-time Grammy winner and a 1993 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Etta battled drug addiction for several decades before finally getting clean in the late 1980s.  A few years back, she dropped 235 pounds through gastric bypass surgery. And even in death Etta is still on the charts right now as Flo Rida heavily samples her on his current top 10 hit, “Good Feeling.” Etta was 73

Joe Paterno died of lung cancer surrounded by family members Saturday, just over two months after he was fired as Pennsylvania State University’s football coach, ending a record-setting 46-year run in which he collected 409 wins and two national championships. He was 85. Paterno helped build Penn State into one of college football’s most prestigious programs over the past six decades and his career win total is the most at the sport’s highest level. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in November, a few days after being dismissed by school officials because of his handling of a child-sex abuse scandal involving former assistant Jerry Sandusky, who was charged with assaulting boys in Penn State’s athletic complex. Fallout from the scandal brought an abrupt end to Paterno’s 61-year tenure at the central Pennsylvania campus known as Happy Valley. “I didn’t know exactly how to handle it and I was afraid to do something that might jeopardize what the university procedure was,” Paterno told the Washington Post in his final interview this month. “So I backed away and turned it over to some other people, people I thought would have a little more expertise than I did. It didn’t work out that way.” Paterno’s tenure on the staff had spanned 12 U.S. presidents and more than 690 games.

Sometimes even the tightest speedos, and most romantic re-comittment ceremonies still cant save a marriage. Surprisingly, Seal and Heidi Klum are said to be splitting, with Supermodel Klum  set to file divorce papers  this week citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The two have 4 children together, 3 biological kids plus Heidi’s daughter from a previous relationship who Seal adopted. Sources directly connected with the couple say Heidi’s decision to divorce Seal has nothing to do with a third person. There is NO issue of infidelity. But Seal’s inability to control his anger has become too much for Heidi to take, in no small part because it’s affecting their children. Apparently their careers also played a part in Heidi’s decision. She has become a mega-entrepreneur and extremely rich, and that professional evolution has created a distance between them. For his part, Seal has a new album coming out and he’s about to launch an international tour.

Looks like Fat Joe is losing the wieght ANNNND his wife. Joe  has been married to wife Lorena for over 17 years. And though she was with him long before the wieght loss, Lorena (who is a STUNNER by the way) is leaving due to Joe’s cheating. Seems like Joey lost the wieght and decided to step outside of his marriage with a 26 year old Miami resident from Dubai named …. you got it… Miss Dubai!  lol. Apparently the two have been dating for over a year with Joe flying her out to several places and even taking her out to public events. Lorena found out through text messages that someone close to the Terror Squad sent to her containing pics of Joe and his creatively named mistress. Joe and Lorena have a five year
old daughter together.

Obama dropped a few notes of the classic “Let’s Stay Together” during an event Thursday night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. TMZ spoke with Al Green, who was in attendance, and
he called Obama’s singing “terrific” and said “He nailed it.” Green said, “I was thrilled that the President even mentioned my name, and if the President can get the economy going again and get everything going that he wants to, then we’ll all be together.” You can count Robin Thicke among those who think President Barack Obama killed it when he sung Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” … in fact, Robin said he’d jump at the chance to sing alongside the Prez.  Here’s the clip of Obama singing

Singer and American Idol Judge STEVEN TYLER performed the National Anthem before yesterday’s New England Patriots / Baltimore Ravens game . . . and it wasn’t exactly a
BEAUTIFUL rendition according to many… For the most part, it was exactly what you’d expect out of a Steven Tyler National Anthem, only maybe a little worse. But apparently
people were expecting MUCH more, because it seems like everyone is SLAMMING him for it. Most of the haters were ragging on Steven’s voice. The Associated Press is saying it wouldn’t have gotten him a Golden Ticket to Hollywood . . . called it one of the worst anthems of all time . . . said he “butchered” it . . .One site said he “screeched and murdered” the Anthem, and asked, quote, “How is this guy supposed to pass as a judge on a singing competition when he does this?”  Others wondered if he was sick or had lost his voice. ( I didnt think it was that bad, but then again, I’m a fan and I love his scratchy voice, so here it is. Judge for yourself!)

TMZ is reporting that KOBE BRYANT’S wife VANESSA is getting HALF of his $75 million . . . including all three of their homes, which are worth $18.8 million.  In California, when there’s no prenup, the state can split a couple’s assets 50-50. Which makes Vanessa the Holy Grail for “Basketball Wives” producers … and the people behind the VH1 show are prepping to make her an offer she can’t refuse. Multiple sources close to the production tell us, producers are putting together “an extremely lucrative pitch for Vanessa” … for her to become a recurring character.  As for the timing — we’re told producers never dreamed of approaching Vanessa while she was married to Kobe … and our sources say Vanessa would NOT have been receptive. Budget constraints were also an issue when the show was in its infant stages — because producers knew Vanessa would be very expensive — but now that BW’s one of the highest rated shows on the network, producers have lots more to spend on talent.
That’s the Juice!
