The nominees for the 25th annual Actor Boy Awards have been released and this year could be the most exciting to date in Jamaican professional theatre! A staggering 19 productions have snagged a nomination for the coveted honor by the International Theatre Institute Jamaica Centre.
The Actor Boy awards show has been called the longest running award show in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean in celebrating excellence in music, dance, and visual arts. The genre’s include children’s theatre, musicals, drama, comedy as well as behind the screen roles like directors, set designers and choreographers. Up for grabs is the best leading actor role, with actor Glen Campbell receiving the most nominations for his roles in ‘Saving Alligator High’ and ‘Funny Kind of Love’.
Several actresses have been given the ‘Best Leading Actress’ nod including Lionie Forbes and Suzette Barrett. Patrick Brown, director of ‘Caught in the Net’, received 11 nominations, and Trevor Nairne received 11, for ‘Saving Alligator High’.
The Actor Boy Awards take place March 30 at Courtleigh Auditorium.
