Amla resigns as captain for South Africa

Hashim Amla has stepped down as South Africa’s captain. He first took the role from the outgoing Graeme Smith in 2014, with some skepticism. South Africa won their first three series under Amla, followed by a 0-0 draw in rainy Bangladesh and a 3-0 whitewash in India. However, in the second Test against England – which ended in a draw – he silenced his doubters with a first innings score of 201. AB de Villiers will take the captain’s role for South Africa for the last two matches in the current Test series.
