Not a birth you would like to remember.
As reported by Zhejiang News Online and the Associated Press, a 22-year-old unidentified woman called police to her building after her newly birthed baby boy slipped down a Chinese squat toilet sewer pipe last Saturday afternoon.
Officials removed the pipe from a ceiling that was most likely just below the restroom, and at the hospital using pliers and saws, gently pull apart the pipe containing the baby, eventually freeing him.
With minor head and limb abrasions, Baby No. 59 – named after his incubator number, weighed in at 2.8 kilograms, and had a low heart rate but is overall doing fine.
The woman who watched the sensational two-hour rescue unfold, told police that she was in fact the mother of the baby a couple days later, after she was asked to undergo a medical check-up after her rented room was searched, finding baby toys and blood-stained toilet-paper.
Police are treating this incident as a possible attempted homicide but it is not clear whether the mother will face any criminal charges.
