Ban on Feathers Effects Carnival Costumes!April 9, 2015
G98.7FM Entertainment News
Despite a nationwide ban on feathers in Jamaica, Jamaica Carnival officials say the festivities will be great, even if some costumes won’t have feathers. Bacchanal Jamaica kicks off this weekend and as revelers prepare for some big fun, others may be stuck with half a costume.
The Veterinary Services Division of the Ministry of Agriculture has placed a ban on poultry and poultry products that are imported to the island…meaning no feathers for some costumes. Because of an outbreak of bird flu in parts of the U.S and Canada, the ministry has made a sweeping ban on all poultry products; despite Carnival officials sterilizing and certifying the feathers…they were denied entry into the island.
Bacchanal Jamaica public relation officer Marcia McDonough says they are making every effort to ensure that the costumes are of high standard, but without feathers as it was impossible to make any other arrangements, however they will offer a refund for missing elements.
The Bacchanal Jamaica road march takes place this Sunday April 12th, while the Ultimate Jouvert Fete takes place this Friday April 10th in Kingston City.
