Barbados hunger targets lauded by former government minister

A former government minister in Barbados says all Barbadians should be proud of reports that the country has met its global hunger targets. Two targets were set in 1996 and 2000. Former minister of social transformation Hamilton Lashley commended the government, in response to the findings released in the report for this year. However, the report notes that Dominica, Bahamas, Belize, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago all have undernourishment levels of less than 10 percent of their populations. The remaining Caribbean countries have undernourishment levels of between 10 and 20 percent, with the exception of Haiti, where the rate of undernourishment is at 50 percent.
