Barbados: Maria Agard suit against BLP adjourned

Dec 24, 2015 | Caribbean, NEWS | 0 comments

Lawyers for the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) have successfully sought an adjournment in the civil suit brought against the party by embattled Christ Church West MP Maria Agard. The matter came up for hearing in the Number 11 Supreme Court Wednesday morning, and has been adjourned until April 7. Agard’s lawyer, Queens Counsel Hal Gollop, says the 40-minute hearing dealt with procedural matters. Agard’s lawsuit has five grounds stemming from her appearance before the BLP’s national council on November 22. Gollop believes the matter will be heard in open court, and Agard says she is anxiously awaiting her day in court. Opposition leader Mia Mottley is appearing as first defendant in the case brought by Agard. General Secretary Jerome Walcott is appearing as the second defendant. Mottley, accompanied by her lawyers, says she too is looking forward to her day in court.
