Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams will go to trial over their hit song “Blurred Lines”! U.S. District Judge John Kronstadt made the ruling that a trial will settle the dispute on whether or not the pair copied elements of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give it Up”.

The Gaye family, Thicke and Williams have all hired music experts to analyze the songs and the family say there are eight similarities where as Thicke and Williams say there is only one.

Thicke and Williams tried to get Kronstadt to reject the plagiarism claims but he denied their request, instead saying a jury must decide “the intrinsic similarity of the work.” The jury would have look at how the compositions appear on sheet music versus how the two songs sound. The trial date is set for Feburary 10th in Los Angeles, the Gaye family has not commented on the ruling.
