Body cameras, people in crisis discussed at Toronto police board meetingSeptember 17, 2015
Toronto’s Police Chief Mark Saunders was at a police board meeting today to outline the changes since the introduction of body cameras in May. 65 officers are currently wearing the cameras, and 35 more are expected to have them within a month. The decision to use the cameras is in response to a report from former Supreme Court Justice Frank Iacobucci. The report contains 84 recommendations dealing with police use of force. Also under discussion at the police board meeting was the handling of people in crisis, particularly those with mental health issues. Toronto Police say most of the recommendations from Iacobucci’s report and from a separate coroner’s inquest have been fulfilled.
