Despicable Me 2 tops box office for 2nd week

Animated movie Despicable Me 2 has taken the box office for a second week in a row.

 

The sequel to the original Despicable Me brought in $44.8 million this weekend, good enough for first place. So far it has brought in a two-week total of $472.4 million.

 

Another sequel has followed right behind Despicable Me, the new Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups 2 debuted in second with $42.5 million. The movie was panned by critics, however despite that it is Adam Sandler’s second best opening in his career.

 

Opening in third place was the monster movie Pacific Rim with $38.3 million. The movie reportedly cost $185 million to make, not including marketing.

 

In fourth place this week was the Sandra Bullock and Mellissa McCarty comedy The Heat with $14 million.

 

Rounding out the top 5 is Johnny Depp’s The Lone Ranger with $11.1 million.

9. “Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain,” $5 million.

10. “Man of Steel,” $4.8 million. ($13.3 million international).
