The Rock and Marky Mark knock Tom Cruise from top spot
The new Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson comedy, Pain & Gain muscled their way to the top spot this weekend at the box office.
Pain and Gain took in $20 million in North American cinemas over its first three days. The film which stars Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg and directed by Transformers director Michael Bay was based on the real-life story of Miami bodybuilders who kidnap a wealthy deli owner and plan to steal his fortune.
Tom Cruise’s sci-fi flick, Oblivion slipped to second place with $17.4 million. Since its release 2 weeks ago the film has now took in a total of $64.7 million.
42, the baseball drama about the life of Jackie Robinson took third this weekend with $10.7 million.
The fourth place film, a romantic comedy titled The Big Wedding took $7.5 million. The film which stars Robert DeNiro, Susan Sarandon and Katherine Heigl, was panned by critics.
The Croods round out the top 5 this weekend bringing in $6.6 million.
Next week look for the summer movie season to kick off with this year’s first superhero film, Iron Man 3. Can Pain and Gain hold on?
