Artist may get new trial for drug charges
Dancehall artist Buju Banton will return to court today where he will find out the outcome of his juror misconduct case which may be instrumental in him getting a new trial for his drug-related conviction.
Juror Teri Wright is accused of violating a judge’s orders by doing Internet research on the Pinkerton law that was used to convict Buju.
Wright reportedly admitted in an earlier court sitting that she used a laptop computer to research aspects of the law used in Buju’s drug trafficking case.
Wright submitted the wrong drive when asked to present the laptop hard drive for examination. It was also revealed that Wright had been on several juries prior, a fact that Buju’s lawyers said would have disqualified her from selection.
Buju may get a new trial after being found guilty on drug related charges for which he is currently serving 10 years in a Florida jail.
