Calypso King Honoured with OBE Award!

Legendary Calypso King the Mighty Sparrow (Slinger Francisco), can add yet another title when he’ll be honoured with the Order of the British Empire today in Grenada.
 
The award recognizes his service to the arts & sciences, public service outside the civil service and work with charitable and welfare organizations. This will add to the Sparrow’s already packed trophy case, in 2014 he was awarded T &T’s highest award the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and also has T&Ts Hummingbird Medal Sliver and the Lifetime achievement award.
 
Born in Grand Roy Grenada, but raised in Trinidad, Sparrow whose real name is Slinger Francisco won his first Calypso King title in 1956 singing “Jean and Dinah and went on to win the title seven more times. He also claimed the Road March title eight times.
