A couple with ties to Canada are reported to be among the six dead in a garbage truck accident in Glasgow, Scotland.
British media have identified 68-year-old Jack Sweeney as one of the fatalities; Sweeney was the former president of the Bramalea Celtic Supporters’ Club, a Brampton-based supporters’ group for a soccer team in Glasgow. Also killed were his wife, 69-year-old Lorraine Sweeney, and their 18-year-old granddaughter Erin McQuade.
All three were identified as being from the Scottish town of Dumbarton, just northwest of Glasgow. The crash occurred yesterday afternoon in Glasgow’s city centre, when the truck driver lost control and hit a crowd of pedestrians. The incident left ten people injured, including the driver.
