Confederate Flag Removed from South Carolina’s Capitol Grounds!July 10, 2015
The Confederate flag was removed from South Carolina’s Capitol grounds, after state legislators voted to banish it in the wake of a deadly racially-motivated shooting that left nine people dead at the Emanuel AME Church.
The Confederate flag was first used in battle, with Southerners rallying around it in their quest to break apart from the United States. However in recent years, the Confederate flag has been the focal point of a different fight — over whether it should still fly anywhere, given that it symbolizes to many the horrors of slavery.
Earlier today, outside South Carolina’s State House, that fight came to an end.
