Dave Whelan steps down as Wigan chairman

Mar 4, 2015 | Soccer, Sports | 0 comments

Dave Whelan has resigned as Wigan Athletic chairman, although he will stay on board as owner. The 78-year-old took the helm in 1995, watching the club rise from the 4th tier to the Premier League and down to their current spot in the Championship. Last year, Whelan was banned and fined by the FA for racist comments about Jewish and Chinese people. He denied any racism, even saying he’ll step down if he’s found guilty. Whelan’s grandson David Sharpe will take over chairing duties.
