Toronto Police Deputy Police Chief Peter Sloly is stepping down from his post after serving nine years with Canada’s largest municipal force.
According to a city hall source, Sloly’s departure has nothing to do with his recent remarks that prompted the police union to allege the 27-year veteran’s candor breached the Police Services Act.

The 49-year-old had been considered the frontrunner to replace former chief Bill Blair, the committee chose to go with Mark Saunders instead.
