Dominica government attending to ailing ex-leader John, says PM Skerrit

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says the government will assist former Prime Minister Patrick John, who is now a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Roseau. John was initially admitted to the hospital on November 29 last year and discharged a month later. However, he went back on January 3 after complaining of a shortness of breath. Skerrit says it is unfortunate that the former Prime Minister’s illness has been dragged into controversy. The government has been under pressure for a perceived lack of assistance to the man who led Dominica to independence as the island’s first Prime Minister. Some pointed out that many government ministers who became ill were flown overseas, while others noted that a lack of information suggests the government doesn’t really care.
