Edward Greenspan, one of Canada’s top criminal lawyers, has died of natural causes; he was 70 years old. His law firm, Greenspan Partners LLP, says he passed away in the company of his family in Phoenix, Arizona. Greenspan had represented many high-profile and controversial figures, such as convicted media mogul Conrad Black, theatre producer Garth Drabinsky, and Robert Latimer, the Saskatchewan farmer charged in the killing of his disabled daughter. The family plans to have his body returned to Toronto, and a memorial for Greenspan will be held at Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel.
