England dump New Zealand with record ODI total

England triumphed with a record score as they dumped New Zealand by 210 runs in the first ODI match at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The Three Lions posted their highest ever one-day total with 408/9 from their 50 overs; this included a 3rd wicket partnership of 121 between Joe Root 104 and captain Eoin Morgan 50, and a stand of 177 for the 7th wicket between wicketkeeper/player of the match Jos Buttler 129 and Adil Rashid 69. Bowling for the Kiwis, Trent Boult took 4/55 from 10, Grant Elliott 2/57 from 5, Mitchell McClenaghan 2/93 from 10. New Zealand missed their target of 409 by a long, crumbling to 198 all out; top scores from Ross Taylor 57 and Kane Williamson 45. Bowling for England, Steven Finn 4/35 from 7 and Adil Rashid 4/55 from 10. England lead 1-0 in the 5-match set; the 2nd ODI is Friday at the Oval in London.
