England pick up momentum at 1st Test in AntiguaApril 13, 2015
The 1st Test between the West Indies and England began at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground at North Sound, Antigua. The hosts won the toss, and surprisingly left England to bat. The Three Lions seemed to be in trouble at first; the Windies bowlers took 3 of England’s wickets early for just 34 runs. Jonathan Trott, who hasn’t made an international appearance in a while, was removed by Jerome Taylor for a 3-ball duck. Captain Alastair Cook was dismissed for 11, and Gary Ballance for 10. But a 4th-wicket stand of 177 between Joe Root 83 and Ian Bell 143 gave the Englishmen some relief and so they closed day one on 341/5 in the 1st innings. Ben Stokes made 71 not out, and James Tredwell was also unbeaten on 0. As for the Windies bowlers, Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach picked up 2 wickets each, Jason Holder took 1, but no wickets for Sulieman Benn or Marlon Samuels. England fast bowler James Anderson is playing his 100th Test, and he’s 4 wickets away from being the all-time Test wicket taker.
