French Open: top names move forth in day 9, but Sharapova stunned in loss

Andy Murray held on to reach the mens’ quarterfinals, beating Jeremy Chardy of France. Also in the fourth round: top seeded Novak Djokovic beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet in straight sets, Roger Federer defeated Gael Monfils, Rafael Nadal advances with his victory over Jack Sock, and Marin Cilic claimed a straight-sets win over David Ferrer. As for the women, top-seed Serena Williams got past fellow American Sloane Stephens, but defending champion Maria Sharapova suffered a shock defeat to Czech player Lucie Safarova, and number 4 Petra Kvitova lost to Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland.
