The Media Had No Faith In Television
In 1939, The New York Times predicted that television would fail because people wouldn't have time to stop and stare at a screen. Also in 1946, film studio executive and producer Darryl Zanuck from 20th Century Fox, forecasted that television would not be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first six months because people would soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.
