Justin Gatlin added a new victory to his name when he won the men’s 100 metre event at the Diamond League meet in Rome. The American clocked in at 9.75 seconds, the 7th fastest time in history. Gatlin edged Usain Bolt’s record in Rome: 9.76 set back in 2012. American Jeneba Tarmoh took the top spot in the women’s 200 metres with 22.77 seconds, ahead of Jamaica’s Kerron Stewart with 22.88, and another Jamaican, Simone Facey, who placed third with 22.91. Meanwhile, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce pulled out of the race as a precaution after a sore hamstring.
