Gayle denounces “ridiculous” move to omit Bravo, Pollard for World Cup

Chris Gayle has slammed the West Indies selectors for leaving out Trinidadian allrounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the ODI squad in South Africa and from the World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand. Speaking after the Windies’ T20 series victory against the South Africans, Gayle calls the decision ridiculous and a form of victimization, adding that the team won’t be as strong going forward. While he didn’t say it directly, Gayle suggested the decision was because Bravo and Pollard are seen as the ones who led October’s pullout from their India tour over the pay dispute. The West Indies’ first World Cup match is February 16 against Ireland.

West Indies World Cup squad:
Captain Jason Holder, Marlon Samuels, Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Jonathan Carter, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin, Kemar Roach, Andre Russell, Darren Sammy, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Jerome Taylor.
