Toronto-based non-profit group GlobalMedic plans to send 2,000 hygiene kits in the effort to help the thousands of evacuees who were forced from their homes this week due to raging wildfires in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Dozens of volunteers gathered together at the organization’s west-end Toronto warehouse to help pack up individual bags with toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and face towels.

The supplies will then be flown to Alberta and distributed by volunteers to those in need.

Alberta declared a state of emergency Wednesday as crews frantically held back wind-whipped wildfires that have already torched 1,600 homes and other buildings in Fort McMurray, forcing all 80,000 residents to flee.
