Gold Cup: Jamaica stun USA 2-1 to reach finalJuly 23, 2015
Jamaica became the first Caribbean country to reach a CONCACAF Gold Cup final. The Reggae Boyz stunned the USA 2-1 last night at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Jamaica’s winning goals came in the 31st minute from Darren Mattocks and five minutes later by Giles Barnes. Michael Bradley scored for the Americans in an attempt to fight back, but as it turns out, that goal was in vain. Jamaica’s big shocker is certainly a step up from their performance in this year’s Copa America, where they crashed out of the group stages without a single goal to their name. But now the win is being celebrated across Jamaica and beyond. The Reggae Boyz coach Winfred Schafer says it’s not quite time to celebrate yet, as they still have the big final against Mexico; that takes place Sunday at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
