Soon our friends across the boarder may have a new face on their 20-dollar bill!
A grassroots campaign to have the legendary Harriet Tubman, the conductor of the Underground Railroad has succeeded in persuading President Barak Obama to remove the portrait of Andrew Jackson- the 7th president and founder of the Democratic Party. The ‘Women on 20s’ petition got more than 118 thousand signatures wanting Tubman to be the face of the poplar U. S currency denomination.
The want the new bill to favour a woman in U.S history. 609 thousand people were surveyed and the group is hoping it will be redesigned in time for the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote in 2020.
Other contenders were former first lady and UN ambassador Eleanor Roosevelt, civil rights hero Rosa Parks and Wilma Mankiller, the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation.
