Former Jamaica National High Jump record holder Germaine Mason died in a motorcycle accident earlier this morning in Jamaica.

According to reports the 34-year-old was riding at the front of a convoy with a number of other athletes, including Usain Bolt, Michael Frater and footballer Ricardo Gardner, when he lost control of his bike on the Palisadoes main road in Kingston.

Mason had switched allegiance to represent Great Britain and won silver in the high jump final in Beijing 2008.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
