New Zealand’s top order was very dominant in the face of England in Day 2 of the 1st Test at Lord’s. At close of play, the Black Caps are 303/2 in the 1st innings. They were treated to an opening stand of 148 between Martin Guptill 70 and Tom Latham 59. This paved the way for another partnership: an unbroken stand of 155 for the 3rd wicket between Kane Williamson on 92 and Ross Taylor on 47. It’s quite the response to England’s 389 all out, with scores from Joe Root 98, Ben Stokes 92, wicketkeeper Jos Buttler 67 and Moeen Ali 58. Bowling for the Kiwis, Trent Boult took 4/79 from 29, and Matt Henry 4/93 from 24.5. New Zealand trail by 86 runs with 8 wickets remaining.
