The legendary Lauryn Hill recently pulled out of a scheduled performance in Israel. The show, which was to be played in Tel Aviv, was cancelled because another show in the nearby Palestinian city of Ramallah couldn’t get clearance.
The eight-time Grammy award-winning artist had hoped to be “a presence supporting justice and peace”, but said setting up a show in Palestinian territory proved to be challenging. Recently, other artists have boycotted against playing in Israel as part of pro-Palestinian activism.
However, Miss Hill says she wants to be a part of a healing process, and that she is seeking a different approach to bring her music to her fans in the region.
