Well known mass band Carnival Nationz revealed their theme and costumes for this year’s Toronto Caribbean Carnival, but not everyone is happy with the designs.

The theme is ‘Oh Canada’ to mark the country’s 150 birthday and some of the costumes include headdresses, something Indigenous Canadians say is appropriating their culture. In Indigenous culture headdresses are important gifts given to chiefs and warriors.

Carnival Nationz did not respond to inquires, however Akil Heywood, who is the leader of the Atlantic Mas and Festival Advisory Committee member says no offence was meant.

What do you think of the new costume design? Tell us your thoughts below!
