The man charged in a fatal impaired-driving crash from three years ago has been sentenced to five years in prison. Sabastian Prosa will also be banned from driving for eight years. Prosa’s SUV went the wrong way on Highway 427, crashing head-on with a minivan near the Queen Elizabeth Way in August 2012. The incident killed 49-year-old Jayantha Wijeratne and his 16-year-old daughter Eleesha. Jayantha’s wife Antonette Wijeratne was in the car and suffered severe injuries. Speaking in front of the courthouse, Antonette says the sentence is too light. Prosecutors had sought a jail sentence of eight years, three more than what was handed down today. Prosa had admitted to heavy alcohol use before going behind the wheel, but pleaded not guilty to the charges, believing his drink may have been spiked.
