Marvel Comic’s Miles Morales to Replace Peter Parker as First Black Spider-ManJune 23, 2015

Spider-Man Miles Morales will officially replace Peter Parker as the first black and second Latino Spiderman (after Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099)in Marvel comics!
The teenage son of an African-American father and Puerto Rican mother, Morales was bitten by a chemically altered spider (similar to radioactive one that bit Peter Parker) during a visit to Uncle’s apartment. He would later wear a Spider-Man costume similar to the now deceased Parker, but decided to change it because spectators told him it is in “bad taste.”
“Many kids of colour who when they were playing superheroes with their friends, their friends wouldn’t let them be Batman or Superman because they don’t look like those heroes but they could be Spider-Man because anyone could be under that mask,” Morales co-creator and comic book writer Brian Bendis told the New York Daily News. “But now it’s true. It’s meant a great deal to a great many people.”
Spider-Man will continue to be portrayed as Peter Parker in the upcoming Marvel film due to be released in 2017, but the new comic book casting will raise hopes that Miles Morales may get his big screen debut real soon!
*FUN FACT: The creation of a black Spider-Man was first discussed a few months before the November 2008 election of US President Barack Obama. The project was reinforced after an unsuccessful online campaign to have African American Actor/Rapper/Comedian Donald Glover secure an audition for the lead role in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man.
