McPherson, Spencer clean up in Birmingham; Walcott breaks own record

Jamaica’s Stephenie Ann McPherson took top honours at the women’s 400-metre race at the Diamond League meet in Birmingham, England; she finished in 52.14 seconds. Kaliese Spencer of Jamaica won the women’s 400-metre hurdles with 54.45. In the men’s javelin, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad & Tobago finished third, but he squashed his own record for his country with 86.43 metres, better than the 86.20 recently set by Walcott in Rome.
