Major League Soccer (MLS) has struck a new agreement with the players’ union, averting a possible strike. The new five-year labour contract was forged after the last deal expired on January 31. Since then, negotiations have taken place, mostly over the issue of free agency. The MLS begins its 20th season Friday when defending champions LA Galaxy host the Chicago Fire. Toronto FC begin their season Saturday against the Whitecaps in Vancouver.
