Niger’s parliament speaker leaves country over baby trafficking allegations

Aug 28, 2014 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

Hama Amadou, the speaker of Niger’s parliament, has fled the country. Amadou is a suspect in connection to a baby trafficking scandal, and the parliamentary committee has agreed on his arrest. In June, his second wife was among 16 other people accused of buying newborns illegally from what is called a “baby factory” in south-eastern Nigeria. All of the accused have denied the claims against them, and Amadou says the allegations are politically motivated. The speaker was considered a presidential contestant for the election in Niger in 2016.
