Christopher George Latore Wallace, better known by his stage names The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie or Biggie Smalls was born this day back in 1972.
When Wallace released his debut album Ready to Die in 1994, making hits like “Juicy” and “Big Poppa,” overnight chart toppers, the rapper became a central figure in the East Coast hip hop scene and increased New York’s visibility in the genre at a time when West Coast hip hop was dominant in the mainstream.
Shortly after his death, Wallace’s second album “Life After Death” was released. The record was a giant hit, selling nearly 700,000 copies in its first week.
