Online threats toward women at U of T puts campus security on high alertSeptember 11, 2015
Police became more present at the University of Toronto today after a series of online threats directed at women and feminists on campus. According to CUPE Local 3902, who represents teaching assistants, the anonymous threats openly encouraged violence, and were aimed at those in the U of T’s sociology and women’s studies departments. University spokesperson David Estok says they have distributed notices to ensure the safety of students and staff. The university has not confirmed the target of the threats, but did say they are cooperating with police in Toronto and Peel Region for the investigation. They also say security has been increased at all three of its campuses. Anyone seeing suspicious activity on campus is being asked to contact police.
