The Canadian Border Services, CBSA, received some intelligence from their American counterparts that led to the arrest of the group human smugglers, including a suspect from Cornwall, Ontario.
Border officials say the Ontario man and three foreign nationals are in police custody after trying to smuggle people from the United States into Canada.
The CBSA says it got information from the U.S border officials that three foreign nationals were identified in Massena New York acting in a ‘suspicious manner’.
CBSA contacted the Akwesasne Mohawk Police service who intercepted and arrested the four suspects.
The Cornwall man was charged with aiding and abetting the illegal movement of people into Canada.
He’s scheduled to appear in court on Mar 15.
The other three were arrested for entering Canada without examination.
However, their nationalities were not released, but they have detention reviews and admissibility hearings in the coming weeks.
