Pan Am Games: De Grasse secures another gold in 200mJuly 24, 2015
Andre De Grasse ran for the gold in a tight men’s 200 metre race at the Pan Am Games inside York University. De Grasse of Markham posted a personal best time of 19.88 seconds, ahead of Rasheed Dwyer of Jamaica with 19.90. Panama’s Alonso Edward took bronze with 19.90. London, Ontario native Damian Warner broke both the Canadian and Pan Am records in the decathlon last night, winning a gold medal with 8,659 points. The old Canadian record was set by Mike Smith back in 1996. The Canadian men’s basketball team are vying for their first spot in the final when they face the USA at the Ryerson Athletics Centre.
Also, Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres won a gold medal in the men’s discus throw, and Bahamian Jeffery Gibson took gold in the men’s 400 metre hurdles.
Canada is still second in the medals table with 70 gold, 62 silver and 56 bronze for a total of 188. The Americans remain on top with 230 medals: 87 gold, 73 silver, and 73 bronze. Brazil is in third with 121 medals: 34 gold, 34 silver, 53 bronze.
