Pan Am Games: More medals for Canada in swimming, badmintonJuly 16, 2015
At the Pan Am Games in Toronto, Canadian swimmer Kierra Smith won gold in the women’s 200 metre breaststroke, and fellow Canuck Martha McCabe took silver. Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson finished fourth. In badminton, Markham’s Michelle Li seized gold in the women’s singles event. Li defeated Rachel Honderich of Toronto, who gets silver. A silver medal was also handed to Alex Bruce and Toby Ng in the mixed doubles badminton contest. Canada now has 86 medals: 34 gold, 32 silver, and 20 bronze. The US has 87 medals, but 29 of them are gold, along with 28 silver and 30 bronze. In third place is Brazil with 16 gold, 14 silver, and 25 bronze for a total of 55. Bermuda and the Bahamas each have a single bronze medal.
