Zouk or Zouk béton is a fast tempo carnival style of music originating from the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, popularized by the French Antilles kassav in the 1980s.
In Antillean French Creole, Zouk means party! Zouk is both a dance and a type of music. This sensual and energetic dance has roots in Brazilian Lambada and Samba, while the music has French Caribbean roots.
Nowadays Zouk is mixed with different genres and styles. Kompa, Reggae, Salsa, Lambada, Reggaeton or other Latin American influences, but also R&B and electronic Music and just some to be mentioned. There is something in for everyone!
