On this day in 2009, Michael Jackson one of the most commercially successful entertainers in history dies from cardiac arrest in his Los Angeles, California home at the age of 50.
 
The legendary singer was preparing a series of summer concerts in London at the time that he was discovered unconscious in his home and later pronounced dead. His death was later ruled a homicide, after lethal levels of the powerful sedative Propofol among other drugs were found in his system. He’s personal doctor had given him the fatal combination of drugs to help him sleep.
 
 

More than 20,000 fans attended Jackson’s public memorial at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and over 30 million viewers tuned in to watch the funeral on TV while millions more viewed online.
