As condolences continue to pour in, Dominica’s carnival industry has lost one of its great costume designers, Michel Raffoul.
His brother Joseph confirmed Raffoul was at a Barbados hospital for medical treatment since last May, but passed away Sunday. The renowned costume builder suffered a massive stroke back in May 2013 that affected his brain and left him paralyzed and speechless.
Joseph thanked all those who supported his brother and offered prayers. He says his brother was more than just a costume builder; he was involved in community service, business, entertainment and with A & M Sounds. Fans who say mass camp just won’t be the same are calling on the leaders to name it after him as gesture of goodwill.
One fan said “He was truly a special person and will be sorely missed by many. I remember him most for a smile that was almost constant.”
In 2012, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Justina Charles presented Raffoul with a special recognition award.
