Rick Ross dropped by ReebokApril 12, 2013
Rapper loses endorsement over controversial lineRick Ross is feeling the effect of his words. The rapper caused controversy earlier this month with a line in the song titled, “U.O.E.N.O.” that seemed to glorify date rape. Ross has reportedly been dropped by Reebok as the company’s spokesperson. The news comes only a few days after a group of activists and rape survivors demanded Reebok to not affiliate themselves with the rapper. The rapper did offer a halfhearted apology via an official statement on Twitter.
I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS — Mastermind (@rickyrozay) April 4, 2013However, the apology did not seem to satisfy Reebok as the company released this statement: “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.”
