The Sacramento Kings have signed 22-year-old centre Sim Bhullar to a 10-day contract, making him the first NBA player of Indian descent. The 7-foot-5 Toronto native is being called up from Sacramento’s D-League affiliate, the Reno Bighorns. Coincidentally, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive is the league’s first Indian-born owner, and has been hopeful about expanding basketball’s reach in his native country. Bhullar is set to be on the roster for Friday, when the Kings host the New Orleans Pelicans.
