Sons die in car crash
What would have been a proud moment for a mother quickly became her worst nightmare as she sat in the audience of her 17-year-old son’s graduation only to be pulled away to hear that devastating news.
Sandra Williams-McGlone and other family members were waiting to see her son Deonta Whitaker walk across the stage at his high school graduation to get his diploma, but instead she was told of the tragedy.
“I just can’t describe it. It’s unbelievable. It’s like it’s a dream that I want to wake up from,” said Williams-McGlone.
Police say that the older brother Anthony Whitaker was driving the younger brother to the graduation ceremony when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into trees on the road they were traveling. Both men died on impact.
Deonta was headed to University on a scholarship and the older brother Anthony leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter.
The boy’s best friend accepted his diploma on behalf of Deonta and his family.
The funerals for the two brothers will be held at the high school that they were headed to.
