South Africa fast bowler Vernon Philander has been ruled out of the current Test series in India after a left ankle injury during practice. Doctors say he’s flying back to Cape Town this weekend, and he’ll have to rest for at least 6 to 8 weeks. They’re hoping he’ll be ready in time for the Proteas’ Test series at home to England starting December 26. Kyle Abbott has been called up to replace Philander as the South African squad enter their second Test against India starting Saturday in Bangalore. So far, India lead the 4-match series 1-0.
